NHS boss speaks publicly on Lucy Letby for the first time since she is found guilty

An NHS boss has spoken out publicly for the first time since Lucy Letby was found guilty of murder. The 33-year-old was convicted of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six others at the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

She was handed a whole life order last month for the crimes she committed in 2015 and 2016. It was confirmed at the start of this month, Lady Justice Thirlwall had been appointed to lead the public inquiry into how the former nurse committed her acts in an NHS hospital.

In his first public comments since the end of Letby’s lengthy trial, NHS Cheshire and Merseyside chief executive Graham Unwin said he welcomed the independent probe.

In his written report to the integrated care board ahead of its meeting on Thursday, Mr Unwin said: "The thoughts of everyone at NHS Cheshire and Merseyside are with the children at the heart of this case and their families and loved ones.
