New 'Delta Plus' Covid variant found in UK and is 'possibly more damaging to lungs'

coronavirus variant dubbed 'Delta Plus' has been detected in the UK - and could have been circulating for weeks. The new variant is a further mutation of the original Delta first discovered in India - and now it has emerged there have been 41 cases picked up in the UK.

Health officials in India believe the strain is more transmissible and is potentially resistant to treatment, although investigations are still underway, The Mirror reports.

Nicola Sturgeon says the original Delta variant makes up for the majority of new cases in Scotland and is driving a third wave of coronavirus.Delta, first known as the Indian variant, was previously declared a variant of concern in the UK and its lineage includes the AY.1 and AY.2 mutations.India has said.
