The BBC announced last month that it would be releasing another new adaptation of an Agatha Christie novel this Christmas. Murder is Easy is a two-part thriller adapted by Siân Ejiwunmi-Le Berre and directed by Meenu Gaur which features an all-star cast including Mathew Baynton and Morfydd Clark.

The drama begins in 1954 when Fitzwilliam (David Jonnson) meets Miss Pinkerton (Penelope Wilton) on the train to London. She tells him that there is a killer on the loose in the English village of Wychwood under Ashe.

Although the villagers think the deaths are accidents, Miss Pinkerton knows otherwise. When she's later found dead on her way to Scotland Yard, Fitzwilliam decides he must hunt the killer before they strike again as for a certain type of person, Murder Is Easy.

Ahead of the show, we take a closer look at Downton Abbey actress Penelope Wilton's life off-screen. Early life and career Penelope, 77, was born in Scarborough to Cliff Wilton, a Cambridge-educated businessman and barrister, and Alice Travers, a tap dancer and former actress.
