Ashfields eerie calm is once again disrupted as we dive back into the critically acclaimed drama Sherwood for its second season.The quaint, fictional town is reeling from the loss of two locals in chilling fashion one by crossbow, the other with a spade yet manages to stand resilient.

Series creator James Graham, who hails from Mansfield and drew on two actual 2004 murders for the show's initial outing, this time turns the spotlight on gang conflicts within his Nottinghamshire roots.

According to James, "The body count is higher this time," revealing his intent to expand the scope. "I wanted to go beyond the drama of the first series where the tragedies were very personal, this time it's about the wider community." Planted firmly in the here and now, series two welcomes new faces caught up in clashes with local narcotic purveyors the Sparrows.

Lingering tensions mount, especially around Daphne Sparrow (portrayed by Lorraine Ashbourne), whose series one conclusion dropped the bombshell twist of her being an undercover cop who'd infiltrated the town during the turbulent miners' strikes of the 80's, a truth obscured even from her nearest and dearest. "In the first series, it was all about having to hold everything in and hide emotionally and keep things close to my chest," Lorraine reveals. "This time, Daphne is out in the world a lot more.
