Uniformed police officers and local leaders stood side by side with family and friends of PC Fiona Bone and PC Nicola Hughes at a memorial service, marking the 10th anniversary of the officers being killed on duty by fugitive Dale Cregan.
PC Hughes, 23, from Saddleworth, and PC Bone, 32, from Sale, were shot dead by Cregan on September 18 2012. Cregan had been on the run, after murdering gangland rivals Mark Short and his father David.
He lured the two officers to an address in Mottram in Longdendale, Tameside, with a bogus report of a burglary. He shot them dead and threw a grenade on their bodies. READ MORE : The bravest of cops, a cowardly killer - the awful truth about Dale Cregan, ten years on During a memorial service outside Hyde Police Station this morning (Sunday September 18) wreaths were laid and minute's silence was held at 10.53am - the exact time PC Bone and PC Hughes were murdered.
Along with the officers' families and former colleagues, Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham was in attendance, as well and Ashton-under-Lyne MP and Deputy Labour Leader Angela Rayner.
