Two planned changes to National Insurance hikes coming into force today will leave millions of people worse off. Stage one of a new Health and Social has been predicted to raise £39 billion from taxpayers which will be invested in the health and social care system.

But, it comes at a time when the rising cost of living is forcing a lot of pressure onto households all across the country. The government claims the Levy will help "to tackle Covid backlogs and reform routine services".

It also claims the Levy "will end spiralling social care costs" by providing "a limit to the cost of care for everyone in the adult social care system for the first time".

Starting today, National Insurance contributions will increase by 1.25 percentage points resulting in anyone earning more than £9,880 a year to pay 1.25p more in the pound in NI contributions.
