Men living in parts of north Manchester and Salford are two and half times more likely to die young than those in some of the richest areas of the country, a damning new report has revealed.

The former parliamentary constituency of Blackley and Broughton, which spans Charlestown, Cheetham, Crumpsall, Harpurhey, and Higher Blackley in Manchester, and Broughton and Kersal in Salford, has one of the highest premature death rates for men anywhere in Great Britain.

The equivalent of 780 men out of every 100,000 die before the age of 75 in the area every year. That's the highest rate in our region and the fourth highest in England.

Men's health charity, Movember, has found that two out of every five men are dying before the age of 75 from preventable causes, with 133,000 men a year dying too soon.
