Manchester United are cautious of Financial Fair Play regulations and are preparing for a quiet January transfer window. United signed Wout Weghorst, Marcel Sabitzer and Jack Butland on temporary deals at the beginning of this year and there were no arrivals in the mid-season window in 2021/22.

The club prefers to conduct business in the summer and Erik ten Hag has spent over £400million (including add-ons) during his tenure.

United signed Mason Mount, Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, Altay Bayindir and Sofyan Amrabat in the last summer transfer window, while Jonny Evans was signed on a free transfer and Sergio Reguilon signed on loan.

It's understood the club won't commit significant funds this January and chief operating officer Collette Roche recently told a fans' forum: "Looking ahead to the January transfer window, we are not expecting it to be particularly busy.
