M8 reopens 12 hours after horror crash as three fighting for life including police officer

The M8 has reopened 12 hours after a horror smash in Glasgow which has left a police officer fighting for his life in hospital.The incident took place at around 1pm on Wednesday, July 24, where three cars collided including a police car on the motorway near to junction 13 Provan.A Mercedes A45 collided with an unmarked Volvo S90 police car and a Mercedes CLS, which were on the hard shoulder of the eastbound carriageway.

Traffic Scotland confirmed the motorway at junction 13 eastbound had fully reopened at 1.45am this morning, following a 12-hour closure.In a post on X, they said: "#M8 eastbound at junction 13 has now fully reopened after the earlier road traffic accident." Seven men, including two police officers, were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary in relation to the crash.

Hospital staff describe the condition of a 48-year-old police officer, 43-year-old man, and a 39-year old man as critical.The condition of a 38-year-old police officer and a 33-year-old man are described as serious.

A further man is being treated for minor injuries.As previously reported, three occupants from the Mercedes A45 made off after the crash.
