Livingston boss David Martindale says the club are still searching for a replacement for Jack Hamilton after two signings fell at the final hurdle. The 22-year-old was loaned out to English League Two club Hartlepool United last week for the season with an option to buy. That allowed Martindale to dip back into the market but he admits he’s been frustrated in his efforts so far.

Despite that, he’s adamant he’d be happy if those attempts end up being fruitless. He said: “We’ve missed out on two strikers.

I thought I had one done but then got a last minute phone call saying he’d changed his mind.“Another one we just couldn’t get the finances quite to match up.

We need to stick to the budget and pay scale at the club.“We’re not even into August yet so I’m pretty confident we can get something sorted out and to be honest if the window was to shut right now I think I’ve got more than enough to get us to where we want to be.”As for Hamilton’s loan move, the gaffer admitted it may be an ideal scenario for all parties if Pools made the move a permanent one next summer. He said: “It was important to get Jack down there and if he does well there’s an option to buy, and I would like to see that come to fruition, if I’m honest.“If he goes down and does well it means we do well.
