The Manchester Evening News understands talks between United and Real Madrid for Casemiro are progressing, with the Reds more hopeful of landing the Brazilian than Frenkie de Jong.

The club are facing a race against time to bring in a defensive midfielder with deadline day less than two weeks away. Casemiro - who has three years left on his contract - is said to be unsettled by Aurelien Tchouameni’s summer arrival.
