A line launcher - suspected of being used to fire drinks cans filled with contraband over prison walls - has been seized during a police raid in Salford, Greater Manchester Police have revealed.

Suspected Class A drugs and 'several' drones were also found in the police strike, GMP added. Line launchers are used legitimately to fire lines and ropes between ships and vessels at sea.

The force said it suspects the item was used 'to launch drinks cans full of contraband over prison walls and into the exercise yards'.

Two women have been arrested, GMP said in a statement today, and investigations are ongoing. Both women, who have not been named, have been released 'under investigation' after questioning, a police spokesman confirmed.
