King has 'played a blinder' over Harry and Meghan Coronation issue

Former BBC Royal Correspondent Michael Cole has argued that King Charles has "played a blinder" by inviting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to his coronation and leaving the decision on their attendance up to them.

Discussing the Sussesexes and the coronation with Sky News Australia host Paul Murray, Michael argued: "The King, actually, has played a blinder here. "He’s made it clear from the very beginning that his youngest son, and his youngest son’s wife, are perfectly welcome at the coronation. "And of course, that puts the ball in their court – they have to decide, if they decide they don’t come it will make them look a little bit petty and mean spirited.

And of course, if they do come, it will leave them open to the charge of hypocrisy.” The Mirror reports that Harry and Meghan are having a difficult time deciding whether or not they will attend the occasion.This is because Harry allegedly wants a summit with his father and brother ahead of flying to the UK from his family home in California.

A source close to the couple told the publication: “Harry has been very clear and his position hasn’t wavered – he isn’t going to come if he feels the atmosphere will be as toxic as it was during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and funeral. “He’s said he wants to reconcile with his family and it’s their call, but so far nothing has changed.” Prince William is said to have some reservations over his brother's attendance at the coronation, with a source close to the Prince telling the Daily Beast: "You can understand why William has his reservations about Harry attending King Charles’ Coronation." The friend referred to William as being the sticking point in getting Harry and Meghan Markle to the historic ceremony.
