King Charles III has thanked his late mother Queen Elizabeth for her life of service and said he hopes “flights of angels” will sing to his “darling Mama” as she makes her “last great journey”.
He paid tribute to the British monarch on Friday (09. 09. 22) just after the start of a packed thanksgiving ceremony in her memory at St Paul’s Cathedral, London.
It started at 6pm, almost 24 hours after it was announced by Buckingham Palace Her Majesty had died “peacefully” aged 96 at her home in Balmoral.
The King, 73, pre-recorded a televised speech in the Blue Drawing Room of Buckingham Palace. It was played on television as mourners including the UK’s new Prime Minister Liz Truss and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan sat in St Paul’s.
