Keith Lasley learned first-hand how much cup success means to the Buddies when he was just seven-years old. As a football-daft kid from Erskine, he watched on at Hampden Park as Ian Ferguson famously smashed home an extra-time winner against Dundee United to bag St Mirren the Scottish Cup in 1987.
Surrounded by thousands of jubilant Saints fans, he was also there when Frank McGarvey knocked Hearts out of the competition in the semi-finals to make it there too.
Having replaced club legend Tony Fitzpatrick, a man he watched come on as a substitute to play a key role in that historic Scottish Cup final success, the Saints new chief operating officer is already plotting a route back to cup and league success for the Paisley club.
After settling into his office at the SMISA Stadium after starting his new role on Monday, Lasley insists he’s determined to do Fitzpatrick and the club proud.Speaking exclusively to Express Sport, Lasley said: “I was brought up in Erskine and went to primary school and high school there.“I’ve always been close to the club.
