Kate Winslet’s ‘Titanic’ overcoat will go on — at auction for ‘$100K plus

13. “It’s definitely a six-figure piece,” Ken Goldin, founder and CEO of the auction house, told The Post. “It’s going to go for $100,000 plus.”As of Friday night, five people had already placed bids, the highest being $34,000.The actress wore the floor-length coat during the 1997 blockbuster’s sinking scenes — like when her character Rose rescues Jack, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, who was handcuffed to a pole on the flooding E-deck.

It still bears water stains from the filming.The coat, made of pink wool with black embroidery, was created by Deborah Lynn Scott, who took home the Oscar for Best Costume Design for her work on the James Cameron film.In 1998, film’s production company 20th Century Fox sold their props from the movie, which included the coat, which was made by clothing retailer the J.

Peterman Company, based on Scott’s design.It came with a letter of authenticity from the clothier and 20th Century Fox confirming it was worn in the movie.“That individual then kept it for a number of years,” Goldin explained of the first buyer, “and sold it in the early 2000s and the owner who bought it years ago contacted us.”He then hired Resolution Photomatching, a company that matches worn items with images of the person wearing them from photos — to verify that it was the exact same one she wore.
