Hollyoaks will no longer air on Channel 4 as bosses confirmed the popular soap was axed from the channel after 28 years. The soap, which has been airing since 1995, will now be permanently moved across to E4, with episodes also reportedly available on YouTube to suit its younger audience, according to reports in The Mirror. It comes as Channel 4 bosses made the decision to switch up the content on its main platform with new shows, meaning for the first time in nearly three decades Hollyoaks will be on Channel 4's sister channel.

They first made the move to stream the soap on All4, announcing the news that episodes would also be uploaded onto YouTube, but they have now made the decision to offer a 'first look' on Channel 4's website before airing the episodes on E4 half an hour later. The changes are believed to take effect later this month from September 25 for Hollyoaks' big stunt week, which will involve The Traitors ' Maddy Smedley (Faye Fuller). It's not the only big change to come for the channel, as other shows to be cut from airing as part of a huge scheduling change include The Big Narstie Show.

The BAFTA-winning late-night show, which launched in 2018, featured musical performances and interviews with celebrity guests and was presented by rapper Big Narstie and comedian Mo Gilligan.A spokesperson for the channel insisted that it was not axed due to ongoing cost-saving measures, but was cancelled as part of a “natural evolution” of its busy schedule.Channel 4 revealed earlier this year that it was adopting new strategies to cut back costs as its advertising revenue was plummeting alongside its ratings.
