Police searching for Jay Slater have said they believe they have "evidence" to show how he died after a body was found almost a month on from his disappearance.Human remains were found on Monday during the search for the 19-year-old teenager, who disappeared in Tenerife while holidaying with friends.Civil Guard officers from the mountain rescue division have said they have evidence indicating he had died "due to an accidental fall in the rough and inaccessible area where he was found".The major update has brought an end to the near-month-long search for the apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire.

He had been on the island with two friends for a three-day music festival but vanished on June 17, reports the Mirror. The three pals were out on the Sunday night before Jay separated from the group, leaving a rave by car with two British men he had befriended on a bar strip.

The teen travelled back with them to an Airbnb in the remote village of Masca, before trying to head back on foot when there were no buses, calling a friend to say he was lost and had only 1 per cent battery on his phone.Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. You'll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland. No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team. All you have to do is click here if you're on mobile, select 'Join Community' and you're in!If you're on a desktop, simply scan the QR code above with your phone and click 'Join Community'.We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
