Tate McRae continues to prove that she’s an expert on pop culture history with the release of her single “It’s ok I’m ok.” The 21-year-old “Exes” hitmaker dropped the new song, a searing kiss-off produced by ILYA and written with Savan Kotecha and Ryan Tedder, on Thursday (September 12).

She also unveiled the music video, which references the likes of Britney Spears and the Pussycat Dolls. Keep reading to find out more… On the song, Tate addresses her exes’ new partner, making it clear that she isn’t jealous. “No, nothin’ could make me miss it / Take him, he’s yours,” she sings before moving into the chorus: “It’s ok, I’m ok, had him in the first place.” The music video is another heavily choreographed masterpiece from director Hannah Lux Davis.

In it, a topless Tate is arrested and put in the back of a police car before escaping into a crowd of fans.

She then proceeds to dance on top of a car and executes a tight routine with a crew of backup dancers. Fans on X (formerly Twitter), drew comparisons between the video and Britney‘s visuals for “I Wanna Go,” “Outrageous” and “Womanizer” as well as a photoshoot with acclaimed photographer David LaChapelle.
