Many Brits pack an iron when they travel, as clothes can easily crease in a suitcase, and no one feels confident in wrinkled outfits.

However, an expert has issued a warning against a new viral hack. A TikTok trend is advising travellers to use hotel irons to exterminate bedbugs.

This hack is not only ineffective, it also poses a serious risk. The concept behind the trick is that the heat from the iron will kill bedbugs on surfaces like clothing and bed sheets.

However, bedbugs often hide in crevices, small spaces and cracks where an iron can't effectively reach. Furthermore, even if the iron's heat does make contact, it's unlikely that it will be able to penetrate deep enough to kill all bugs and their eggs.
