Ranvir Singh opened up on Good Morning Britain about her own family tragedy which she only realised a few years ago had been the reason she hates New Year's Eve.

The presenter spoke about it on Friday's show (December 29) alongside co-host Richard Madeley. They were responding to a video which featured widower Ali who volunteers for the charity Grief Encounter as they gave a last push for their 1 Million Minutes campaign which encourages people to pledge their time to charities that tackle the issues of loneliness.

Now in its eighth year, this year's campaign has seen more than 100 million minutes pledged. In the emotional video, Ali told how she had lost her husband and was left a single mum to their children. "It's the worst experience that can happen to anyone," she said before sharing how she now volunteers with Gried Encounter as she wanted to help others in the way the charity had helped her. Asked by her co-host if it was a "sudden death", she replied: "He had a heart attack.
