When one thinks of hurling there is only one name that comes to mind and that is Galway legend Joe Canning. He has been a staple of the sports for over a decade but now the time has come for the 32-year-old to hang up his camán and sliotar.

Joe played his final match last weekend when Galway were defeated by Waterford, the score reading 1-30 to 3-20, and it certainly wasn’t how Joe thought he would bow out of the sport.

Joe overtook Henry Shefflin as the leading scorer in championship hurling, with a whopping 27 goals and 485 points across 62 games over the course of his career.
