Emotional Fran Alonso has delivered a passionate tribute to his Celtic players after they were beaten to the SWPL title in the final seconds of the season.Celtic Women started the final day in third and trailed leaders Glasgow City by two points while also sitting behind Rangers on goal difference, but goals from Caitlin Hayes and Natasha Flint had them on course for a first league crown.
City and Gers were locked in a goalless draw heading into injury time - but after the full-time whistle sounded at Celtic Park Lauren Davidson netted to claim a 16th league title for Leanne Ross' side.After the full-time whistle Alonso led his players around the stands in Glasgow's east end as they were met with a heroic reception despite narrowly missing out on silverware.
A tearful Alonso was asked by the BBC about his thoughts on the Hoops after the full-time whistle: "I am extremely proud of my players. "We are without five players out that would normally be in the starting eleven.
The players that came in, they wore the Celtic shirt with pride and passion, and with heart. "They made everyone proud. It is just heartbreaking for me to not see them lift the title.
