Fourth covid vaccine may be needed to combat virus in new year, says leading expert

A fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine could be rolled out across the country in a bid combat the deadly virus, a leading expert has suggested.

Professor Adam Finn, a professor of paediatrics at University of Bristol and a member of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), said recommendations to ministers for the elderly and more vulnerable to get a second booster may be given in the new year.

Two new studies have suggested catching Omicron is less likely to result in severe symptoms and hospital admission than earlier Covid strains like Delta.
