Broadband speeds across the UK have been ranked - and there are huge differences between regions.Uswitch has listed cities based on the largest gap between their fastest and slowest broadband speeds, with Glasgow taking the undesirable top-spot.The Scottish city, which also had the worst broadband speed overall, has a fastest area that's a whopping 866 times quicker than the slowest. The two areas in Glasgow - Milton and Bearsden - are just four miles away from each other despite their stark differences in internet speeds. The Milton district logged an impressive 840.4Mbps - the second fastest overall - while in Bearsden, speeds as low as 0.97Mbps were recorded. This is less than a tenth of the 10Mbps download speed defined as the minimum required for a decent broadband connection as part of the UK Government’s universal service obligation.

It was the slowest of the 30 cities ranked by the utility switching experts.Edinburgh also made it into the top 10, although it did have the fastest recorded speed of all UK cities with 840.6Mbps.This was a long shot from the capital's slowest speed however; with an unnamed area in the city coming in at 2.32 Mbps. The full top 10 in the UK, which includes both Scottish, cities is as follows: Ernest Doku, broadband expert at Uswitch.com, says: "While the average UK broadband speed is increasing year on year, not everyone is benefiting. "We are seeing a large and growing gap between customers benefiting from ultrafast speeds and those who are getting the bare minimum."Legacy copper-wire broadband services often struggle to cope with the demands placed on them by busy households with many devices online, and are also more likely to suffer from outages."Don't miss the latest news from around
