Exact places snow will hit Scotland today as Met Office warns of 19-hour flurries

Snow is expected to batter Scotland from later today after forecasters issued a yellow warning for the wintry showers. The Met Office has issued the warning for much of the country from 4pm today until 11am the following morning.Up to 10cm on the white stuff could land in some higher areas of the country during this 19-hour spell, according to forecasters.

Scots in the impacted areas have been told to brace themselves for travel disruption later this evening and throughout tomorrow morning.

Temperatures are also expected to struggle to get above freezing during this spell, with forecasters also warning of the risk of icy patches on the roads and pavements.The Met Office yellow warning reads: “Showers will fall as snow to quite low levels on Wednesday evening and night.“Accumulations of 2-5cm are possible above 200 metres elevation with perhaps 10cm on some of the highest routes above 400 metres.“At lower levels some slight slushy falls are possible, as well as a risk of icy surfaces, before the snow becomes more confined to high ground during Thursday morning.”The Met Office has provided a list of places expected to be most impacted by the conditions, as part of its yellow weather warning.These include:The Met Office has also issued another warning for strong winds across Scotland between 3am and midday tomorrow.Winds are expected to pick up to highs of around 75mph during this period, according to forecasters.Dundee, Falkirk, Fife, Aberdeenshire, Edinburgh, the Highlands, Glasgow, Ayrshire and Lanarkshire are among the areas expected to be hit by high winds overnight tonight.Experts have warned of delays to public transport services, while there is a possibility of power cuts due to the adverse conditions.
