Elliot Page details horror shingles battle amid stress filming Inception with cis men
msn.comElliot Page has detailed a painful battle with Shingles when he was just 22, partly due to the stress of his personal life and being surrounded by cis men while filming Inception.
The actor became a household name overnight when he starred in classic teen movie Juno, and went on to appear alongside the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Goron-Levitt and Ed Hardy in the 2010 blockbuster.
Inception was filmed before Elliot, then presenting as female, came out as gay, and a decade before he revealed he was transgender.
In his new memoir Pageboy, the star admitted he felt ‘out of place’ on the set, and that ‘shingles communicated the stress my body felt… despite everyone being delightful to work with. ’He wrote that the infection ‘popped out of my spine’ while he was filming the sci-fi movie, and that ‘in a cast full of cis men I did not understand the role I found myself in. ’Elliot, 36, was also struggling with his personal life, where at the time he was secretly dating a woman who was out about her sexuality and had the support of a community, while he was ‘not settled. ’‘My body hoarded the unexamined emotions, sensations, wants, and needs,’ leading to the shingles, he suggested in the excerpt seen by Insider.
