East Kilbride Thistle boss Aaron Connolly dusted down his boots and climbed off the bench to help his depleted side to a 2-2 draw with St Peter’s on Saturday. But the former Ayr United striker has dismissed any notion of mounting a comeback. The 33-year-old saw his squad decimated by injuries, illness and holidays and was forced to throw himself on in the second half of Saturday’s West of Scotland Fourth Division clash at the Showpark.Kieran McCulloch had fired Thistle in front in the first half before St Peter’s levelled.

Then Connolly introduced himself to proceedings and slotted the ball home 15 minutes from time to put the Jags 2-1 up, only for the visitors to find an equaliser.Connolly admitted his side’s display meant they were barely deserving of their point but, given the circumstances, he was happy to take something from it.He said: “I said to the players after the game that I think we got away with one with this result.

We only had 14 players to injuries, illness and holidays so we are down to the bare bones, evidenced by the fact I had to put myself on the bench.

But I thought St Peter’s did enough to win the game, created better opportunities and we weren’t quite at it.“To be fair, we showed resolve and steeliness to get ourselves a point out of it.
