Dozens of sandwich varieties have been pulled from store shelves following the detection of over 200 E. coli cases in the UK, all linked to a single outbreak.
As of Tuesday, June 11, there have been 211 confirmed cases of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) nationwide, as reported by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
The UKHSA believes that a single outbreak is responsible for at least 67 hospital admissions so far. Most cases have been identified in young adults, but the bacteria has also been confirmed in children as young as two and elderly individuals up to 79 years old.
The UKHSA is collaborating with the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Food Standards Scotland, and devolved public health agencies to investigate the outbreak.
