The Department for Work and Pensions has announced that millions of households have received the Pensioner Cost of Living Payment and Winter Fuel Payment.

In an update, the government department confirmed that 11.9 million payments have been issued to 8.9 million households. Overall, this means a total of 4.8bn has been spent on the payments, with just over half of that going towards Pensioner Cost of Living payments alone.

The DWP also highlighted that not everyone will have received their payments yet, with many expected to still get it in January.

The payments will appear in bank accounts with a reference stating the customer's National Insurance Number filled by "DWP WFP".
