The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is sending out £25 payments to vulnerable people in areas experiencing particularly low temperatures this winter.
The Cold Weather Payment scheme aims to help those on a low income with their energy bills as the temperature drops. Between November 1 and March 31, people who are on certain means-tested benefits will be eligible for the payments.
Each time the temperature drops to zero or below for a consecutive period of seven days, a payment will be triggered. Local weather stations across the country are used to determine which postcode areas are eligible for the payments.
