Dumfries and Galloway’s Wild Goose Festival is set to take flight with an even bigger reach. The main event runs for 10 days from October 19 but its popularity means some activities are starting earlier and running later.

In a celebration of nature and creativity, this year’s programme includes exhibitions, guided walks, tours, creative workshops, interactive performances, film screenings, stargazing, literary events, lectures and opportunities to see local and visiting wildlife up close in their natural habitats.

Graham Rooney, lead producer of Wild Goose Festival, said: “It is a really special event, a true celebration of nature, creativity and place. “Not only does it unite so many different partners from across the region, highlighting the unique natural recourses that Dumfries and Galloway has, but it also encourages new audiences to engage, learn and interact with the natural world in new, innovative and creativity ways.” The festival is inspired by the migratory route of barnacle geese between Svalbard and the Solway estuary.

It focuses on the region’s connection to these birds and the tens of thousands of wild geese species, including barnacle, greylag, brent and Greenland white-fronted geese – many of which travel thousands of miles each year to winter in Dumfries and Galloway.
