David Goodwillie says 'let's go' as prosecutors asked to re-examine criminal case against him

Prosecutors have been asked to re-examine a criminal case against disgraced footballer David Goodwillie. The former Scotland international was found to have raped a woman in 2017 in a civil case ruling at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, but he has never faced criminal proceedings after the Crown office dropped charges against him in 2011, citing there was "insufficient evidence".

A lawyer to victim Denise Clair, who previously waived her right to anonymity to speak out, has now written to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) to consider to re-opening the case, the BBC reports.Thomas Ross KC is also looking at options to bringing a private prosecution against 34-year-old Goodwillie and former footballer David Robertson, who were judged to have raped Ms Clair.Goodwillie responded to the news tonight with a tweet directed at the lawyers saying "let's go" and accusing them of "bullying" him.He said: "I say let's go, I can finally have the chance to clear my name of this vile stigma that has followed me for long enough."Your attempt to BULLY me going to the media will not work anymore."He then continued: "All I would ask for is a fair trial, this has been well publicised for many years now."I never stopped maintaining my innocence and won't stop now."He also rubbished the idea of a private prosecution and said: "Everyone involved in the case would have to have a substantial amount of money for this to happen.

I know I don't have that, and everyone who is involved I assume they are the same. "The former Dundee United, Blackburn, Aberdeen and Plymouth player spoke in his first interview since 2017 last week.
