This new-look St Johnstone team proved that they will fight for each other. They will put in the miles to help out the man lining-up beside them and take great pride in it.Manager Steven MacLean has been nothing short of bold since taking the reins at the end of last season and his team selection at Celtic Park on Saturday followed suit.Eight summer arrivals were pitched in from the first whistle.

Three of them - loan youngsters Luke Robinson, Jay Turner-Cooke and Dare Costolloe - were making their club debut. Here was a group young in age and experience but not lacking in fundamentals that often get you far in football.

Pure hard work and doing the basics well.Robinson, up north from Wigan, was at left-back and passionate when riling up his team-mates when shaking hands ahead of kick-off.

He then performed well and frustrated the often dangerous threat of Daizen Maeda.Newcastle loanee Turner-Cooke showed off his neat pair of feet in the middle of the park and, while not getting on the ball as much as he would’ve liked - that is expected against this opposition - he was not fazed by the occasion. And Costelloe, of Burnley, offered a structured and disciplined performance while also displaying his key attributes of pace, power and composure. The Irish attacker actually almost won the game for Saints after chasing down a long ball, skilfully cutting inside and then forcing a smart stop out of goalkeeper Joe Hart.“I was thinking ‘I have him here, I have him here’,” Costelloe smiled of his late chance.“It was a great save but hopefully I can get my first goal next week.“We knew we were going to need to do a lot off the ball to try and get a result.“Everyone, as you could see, is willing to put in the hard work.
