Bolton Council has agreed to lease more than a dozen homes to help support people facing homelessness. Local authorities have a legal responsibility to provide temporary accommodation to those in need.
In Bolton, one of many areas across the UK facing unprecedented demand, the council has been purchasing spaces in hotels and bed and breakfasts, costing up to £100 a night per person.
The council has an arrangement with local housing associations, with several properties set aside on long-term leases to provide this temporary accommodation when required. With some leases due for renewal, the council is now taking the opportunity to secure 13 additional properties on a long-term basis.
