Coatbridge’s MSP is welcoming a new £50 winter heating benefit due to be paid out to 400,000 Scottish households from next February.Fulton MacGregor says the annual sum will provide residents on low incomes with a “reliable, stable guaranteed payment” during the coldest months.He has previously campaigned on the topic, after his constituents in Bargeddie and some parts of Coatbridge did not receive cold weather payments even during the notorious “Beast from the East” snowfall of early 2018.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Mr MacGregor says the benefit – which is the 13th to be introduced by the Scottish Government and follows this week’s Lanarkshire launch of the combined adult disability payment – will help people on low incomes in Coatbridge & Chryston and across Scotland “to pay their energy bills every winter”.
