Caroline Glachan's mum says 'justice has been done' after killers jailed for life

The mum of murdered teenager Caroline Glachan has said 'justice has been done' after her killers were jailed for life on Monday.Robert O’Brien and Andrew Kelly were found guilty of killing the 14-year-old, who was O’Brien’s girlfriend, in August 1996, after a trial at the High Court in Glasgow last month.Donna Marie Brand, 44, was also found guilty of the schoolgirl’s murder but as she was in hospital with a respiratory infection, she will be sentenced in March.Caroline's mum Margaret McKeich has now spoken to STV's Scotland Tonight following the sentencing and said she finally feels a sense of justice.She said: “There is a sense of justice.

I think a lot of people think ‘right, now it’s closure’. But I don’t see it as closure, I don’t think closure is the right word for – justice is the right word."I still don’t have a daughter so how can you close off on that, so I think justice has been done.“Hope is what I had, hope that they would catch whoever did it.

I had a feeling, I think as most people did, to who they were but proving it was a different thing.”During 10 days of evidence in court, the jury heard O’Brien, Brand and Kelly had arranged to meet Caroline on August 25, 1996, at a bridge near the towpath beside the River Leven in West Dunbartonshire.It was here they repeatedly punched and kicked her to the head and body, as they shouted and swore at the schoolgirl.

Bricks and other similar items were thrown at her, causing blunt force trauma to her head and body, the court also heard.Caroline's body was discovered on Mrs McKeich's 40th birthday in the river at Place of Bonhill, Renton, after she was pushed or fell into undergrowth.Mrs McKeich spoke of the harrowing impact of hearing the extent of her daughter's
