BTS’ Suga fined over US$11,000 for e-scooter DUI incident

BTS member Suga has been issued a fine of KRW15million, approximately US$11,468, by a Seoul court for his recent e-scooter DUI incident.The Korea Herald reported that a judge from the Seoul Western District Court imposed the fine on September 27 in a summary judgement, which is a legal decision made by a judge without a full trial.

The outlet also noted that the fine was the same amount prosecution requested as penalty.Although the 31-year-old rapper has yet to publicly respond to the fine as of writing, Suga does have the right to request a formal trial within seven days of the ruling if he wishes to contest it, according to the news outlet.The K-pop idol was first booked by South Korean police in early August for violating the Road Traffic Act by driving an e-scooter while under the influence.

Following his charge, BTS’ label Big Hit Music and Suga both issued official statements and apologies to fans regarding the incident.He would later be called in for questioning on August 23 at Yongsan Police Station in Seoul.

Suga then issued a second formal apology days later on Weverse, where he wrote that he had “made a grave mistake”.“Due to my carelessness, everyone who cares about me is going through a difficult time.
