BBC Countryfile has responded to viewer complaints about a recent episode after it decided to shine a light on a health issue faced by rural communities. The show, which aired on 17 March, featured Charlotte Smith and Sean Fletcher exploring the beautiful Marlborough Downs in North Wessex, known for its chalk grasslands, ancient woods, and unique streams.

However, during the same episode, Datshiane Navanayagam also visited Devon and Cornwall to highlight the difficulties rural residents face when trying to access NHS dentists.

It was this particular segment which sparked a furious backlash from viewers, according to the BBC's latest report. The broadcaster shared: "We received complaints from people who felt that the item on dentistry was not suitable for Countryfile." But the BBC defended their choice, explaining that they cover a "wide range of rural affairs issues affecting rural areas and communities" while also citing a number of other health issues that had been tackled in the past.

They clarified in a statement: "In this programme, Countryfile investigated the lack of NHS dentistry provision in Devon and Cornwall.
