Barry Jenkins will be directing Mufasa: The Lion King, the upcoming prequel to the 2019 live-action adaptation of The Lion King.
The film will tell the origin story of the iconic Disney father lion, exploring his childhood growing up with his brother Scar. Click inside to read more… “I had to make this movie,” said Barry at the D23 Expo. “Because when I was 14 I was raising two nephews and there was a VHS tape that we watched about 95 times in the span of two days.
I was thinking about Mufasa and how he becomes great…what you’ll learn in this story is that Mufasa is great because of the family and friends he has with him.” Barry wrote and directed the 2016 Oscar-winning film, Moonlight.
He most recently directed the 2018 romantic drama If Beale Street Could Talk. Also at the D23 Expo, the sequel to Inside Out was confirmed with three actors returning and two not coming back.
