Andrew Garfield opened up about Mel Gibson and his status in Hollywood after the director made anti-Semitic statements when he was arrested for a 2006 DUI.
The 41-year-old Amazing Spider-Man actor worked with Mel on his 2016 movie Hacksaw Ridge. During a recent interview, Andrew looked back on the experience and what he learned from Mel.
He also defended the director’s status in the industry. Because he’s an amazing filmmaker, and I think he deserves to make films. He deserves to tell stories, because he has a very, very big, compassionate heart.” Andrew said that he learned “a lot” from working with him, too. “I learned that people can heal.
