Albion Rovers boss delighted as double helps net first Lowland League win

Albion Rovers boss Sandy Clark was delighted for Barry Duncan as the midfielder netted a stunning free-kick to help Albion Rovers to their first win in the Lowland League on Saturday.Duncan was at the double after Joe Bevan and Niyah Joseph netted in a 4-0 win over struggling Gretna 2008, but it was his 30-yard free-kick into the top corner for Rovers’ third that lit up the game at Raydale Park.After an opening day defeat at home to Hearts B last week, Clark was pleased to see his side find the perfect response with a dominant display in the Borders, and he heaped praise on Duncan.He said: “Barry Duncan’s goal is the best out of the four, but they were all good goals, to be fair.“The technique from him was great and, for a young lad who has been playing well, it is a great reward for him.“He’s put it right into the top corner.“We pushed him up the pitch a bit towards the end and he managed to get a second one with the last kick of the ball, so I’m delighted for him.“Joe scored a great individual goal, as he does, coming in off the right hand side, beating two or three defenders and sticking the ball in the back of the net.“But the most important thing after losing last week was getting the three points.“Gretna have had a difficult start to the season so we knew it was a good opportunity for us.“It took us a wee while to break them down, but once we did, we totally dominated the game.“Once we got in front there was only ever going to be one winner.“We worked hard and did the right things.
