Phil Foden says he would relish the responsibility of being tasked with replacing Ilkay Gundogan's role in the Man City midfield next season.
The 23-year-old has played the majority of his matches in the City first-team as a left winger but is currently being considered for a more central role following the departure of the club captain.
Foden shone in a central role in the Champions League final win over Inter Milan last month, having been tested there across the last few matches of the season.
It was the injured Kevin De Bruyne who he replaced in Istanbul, but now the task for Pep Guardiola is to try and replace Gundogan following his move to Barcelona. "It’s happening now in pre season but I don’t know if it’s going to happen in the season as well – we’ll have to see," Foden told reporters in Tokyo of his recent position switch. "I’ll just try to be ready for that if it happens.
