Police searching a property in Hamilton were startled when a man from a neighbouring flat confronted them with a sword and a cosh.David Hastie claimed he armed himself because he was concerned after hearing noises in the adjacent flat.Hastie, 38, of Strathaven Road, admitted illegal possession of the weapons when his case called at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday.Victoria Ferguson, prosecuting, said police were called out shortly after 7pm on Thursday, May 7.She told the court: “They were searching for any persons who might be in the property.“The officers heard the sound of a metal object striking the door.“They went outside and saw the accused in possession of an extendable cosh and a sword with a 12-inch blade.“On seeing the police, the
