Work on a new classroom block at Bishopton Primary School has been scheduled to begin in the early part of next year. A contract for the construction of the permanent building will go before councillors at the finance, resources and customer services policy board on Thursday.

If given the green light, the agreement – which is worth around £590,000 – will see City Gate Construction (Scotland) take on the project.

A report to the board said: "Renfrewshire Council requires a competent and suitably experienced contractor for a full turnkey solution to design and construct on site, a new permanent building to accommodate two primary classrooms and associated cloakroom, storage and toilet facilities for pupils and staff.

Services to the new building are to be linked to the existing main school building. "Works also include all associated civils and utilities works and installation of external learning canopies.
