Windswept royals hold on to their hats at Royal Garter ceremony

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, and Sophie Wessex, the Duchess of Edinburgh were positively beaming as they joined the rest of the Royal Family at the Order of the Garter service today, Monday 19 June, but it was an incredibly windy affair.

The two women looked elegant as they showed off their stylish looks in the London sunshine, and while Prince William, the King, Queen Camilla and the Duke of Edinburgh all wore traditional dress for the occasion, they couldn't stop holding on to their hats in the blustery weather.

As the senior Royals arrived at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle one by one, they all clutched on to their traditional headdresses for fear of them blowing away.

Even the plumes billowed in the wind as the group showed off their cloaks to excited onlookers. Mum-of-three Kate, 41, had also chosen a look that seemed to convey a throwback to the former Princess of Wales, Princess Diana.
