More than 1,500 people were evacuated from the Derbyshire town in August 2019 when torrential rain led to fears the dam wall at Toddbrook Reservoir could come crashing down, causing major flooding.

A permanent repair plan has now been released by the Canal and River Trust, with work expected to get underway at the end of 2021 if planning permission is granted.

The trust previously said it was “happy” with how the dam was originally built – describing the incident in August 2019 as an “anomaly”.
