The university has since apologised, claiming the fencing was put in place on Thursday - which coincided with the first day of lockdown - as a response to concerns about security on site.By Friday morning, the fences were removed from the campus, less than 24 hours after being put up.President and Vice Chancellor, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, said she has now launched an inquiry into the decision to erect the fences, and the way in which this was communicated to students.She apologised to students for the "distress" caused by the fencing, and for the "very poor communication" surrounding.
