MPs held a minute's silence in Parliament this morning (January 18) in memory of Sir Tony Lloyd. The Rochdale MP, who held several senior political roles in Greater Manchester, revealed last week that he had developed an 'aggressive and untreatable leukaemia'.
The Labour MP, who previously represented the Stretford and Manchester Central constituencies, said he left hospital 'to spend the time I have left with my family'.
The 73-year-old, died 'peacefully' on Wednesday morning (January 17), 'surrounded' by his family. Tributes have been pouring in for the veteran politician who served as Greater Manchester's Police and Crime Commissioner and the city-region's interim mayor before Andy Burnham was elected.
