Bruno Fernandes thinks Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has received too much criticism. Maguire was stripped of the captaincy in the summer and he was expected to leave, but he remained at Old Trafford beyond the transfer window and he's recently produced a string of improved performances.

The centre-back scored the winning goal in the 1-0 win against F.C. Copenhagen in the Champions League and he received praise again for his display against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon. Fernandes spoke to the BBC after the crucial win and he praised the defender for his renaissance in recent weeks. "Everyone has been important, I don't want to focus too much on one player, but everyone has been too critical of Harry [Maguire] and he is doing very well.

I hope he can stay at this level," Fernandes said. "He was good, he was important for us today with his long balls, but you also have to give credit to Jonny [Evans] and Raphael [Varane] when he came on, he was ready to fight for the team." West Ham were interested in signing Maguire in the summer but talks broke down and a move didn't materialise.
